Classic & Clean: The Transit Line

A Timeless Silhouette Reimagined

With its clean lines and ability to work in any environment, our Transit chair is one of our most loved pieces of the curated line.

Although the exact origin is not known, the classic school chair design has long been admired by designers. The design has been traced to as early as the 1930s by French designer Jean Prouve featuring a seat with a curved lip. In the late 50s, Heywood & Wakefield’s school chair reminiscent of Prouve’s design became the staple. The history of the school chair has had many iterations, but this classic design has remained consistent.

how it came to crow works

In 2013, we were beginning to create our Curated Collection, pieces designed by us in-house that we could offer our clients in addition to our custom capabilities. The Transit chair was one of the very first pieces in this collection. Since its creation, our Transit chair has been a consistent favorite – we have created over 100,000 for our clients, each uniquely customized to be exactly right for their needs. No matter the space, the Transit line has proven to be a classic while allowing for our clients' personal twist to shine through and make every piece special.

We believe beauty is useful and utility is beautiful

Uniting the beauty of the Transit chair with utility, we have engineered the Transit line to be exceptionally durable for commercial spaces.  Our engineering team has optimized every aspect of our seats with virtually invisible details to ensure quality without forgoing design. Metal corner brackets are utilized below the seat for strength while beautiful and strong cold rolled steel supports the back. To meet the needs of mass production, we use robotic welding to create tight tolerances and ensure quality control. The hardwoods are steam bent rather than carved to strengthen the wood, supporting a longer lifespan in your space. We’ve angled the back at 101°, the ideal angle for posture and comfort and expanded the line to include a stackable Transit chair.

With the option for upholstered seats, as well as customizable finishes for both metal and wood, the Transit line is versatile enough to exist perfectly in any environment.
